SchoolMessenger Tips

Finding Records Associated With an Phone Number or Email Address

  1. Log in to SchoolMessenger Admin
  2. Click the System tab
  3. Select Contacts in the System sub-menu
  4. Select Search for Person
  5. Enter a phone number(including area code) or an email address
  6. Click the Search button
  7. Any contact who has that phone number/email address associated with it will be displayed in the Search Results
  8. Click the Show/Hide Fields link and select Contact Type so you can view the type of record this phone number/email address is associated with

Adding Phone Numbers/Email Addresses to the Blocked List

  1. Log in to SchoolMessenger Admin
  2. Click the System tab
  3. Select Blocked Lists in the System sub-menu
  4. Select either Phone Calls/Text Messages or Email Addresses on the Blocked Destination Types page
  5. Enter the phone number/email address you wish to block from receiving notifications and enter a reason for the block
  6. Click the Add button
  7. You can also view all the phone numbers/email addresses you have block from this screen a remove them if they were added in error

Handling People that Call After Receiving Unwanted Calls/Texts/Emails

  • If someone contacts you saying they are being called/texted/emailed by SchoolMessenger but have nothing to do with our district and no longer want to receive calls, you should follow these steps to correct the issue:
    • Use the steps above to find all records that have the phone number/email address associated with them
    • If the record is a Student record, the erroneous data should be corrected in PowerSchool and the phone number/email address should be added to the blocked list in SchoolMessenger to avoid future notifications
    • If the record is a Community record, this person most likely signed up for the SchoolMessenger Community and will need to log in to their account to modify this information. If the person did not sign up for a SchoolMessenger Community account, you'll need to forward this issue to the Information Systems department so we can resolve the issue.
    • If the record is a Staff record, notify that employee and ask them to correct their contact information in Contact Manager
  • If someone contacts you saying they are being called/texted/emailed by SchoolMessenger but ARE related to that contact and want to receive some notifications but not all, you should follow these steps to correct the issue:
    • Use the steps above to find all records that have the phone number/email address associated with them
    • If the record is a Student record, advice the person that the parent/guardian for the student will need to make these changes in Contact Manager
    • If the record is a Community record, this person most likely signed up for the SchoolMessenger Community and will need to log in to their account to modify this information. Community members can not choose which types of notifications they receive. They can only choose which schools they receive them from and whether or not they include a home phone/cell phone/email address.
    • If the record is a Staff record, notify that employee and ask them to correct their contact information in Contact Manager
